The Quest - Follow the Leader #5
40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
We are going to walk through many experiences of Jesus, Moses and some others in the Bible on a Quest to “Experience his Glory/Presence” in a way that few have experienced it.
Throughout this year we have purposefully lined out messages to get us to this day, To start “The Quest.”
Home: Home is where the Presence of the Father is, Sonship (Chair 1), the Door.
Abide: Becoming well acquainted with the Culture of Heaven, Trusting Him moving forward.
The Quest: Pursuit of His Glory - an encounter with Him today that will transform our tomorrow’s.
We must start “The Quest” with “The Quest-ion!”
“Is my passion for His Presence/Glory measurable outside of the expression of ‘Church Services?’”
If my only measurable expression of His Presence happens in “Church Services” something has to change.
It is not a Quest if there is not a purpose. We cannot just say “We want His Glory” just to say we experienced his glory. God does not waste his Glory.
This is the reason we are on a Quest. This is the reason we are in “Pursuit of His Glory!”
There is a mandate from God: Isaiah 61:4b “they shall repair(redeem, make new) the ruined cities, and (redeem, make new) the devastations of many generations.
The purpose of his of His glory for the setting free of his people from bondage and slavery.
This Quest is not for the faint of heart.
There is something that has halted many movements of God and it is a “Cautiousness” that is fear based and many religious over time have labeled it as wisdom.
There is a Wisdom from God, that comes from the Holy Spirit. That wisdom is to move you forward because the Holy Spirit “will show you things to come.”
Many times “Cautiousness/Fear comes from Uncomfortableness: 1) Fear of what I do not understand
2) Knowledge that I do to have.
The reality is we, the Church, because of “Fear of what I do not understand” and “Knowledge that I do to have” have been taught to co-exist and endure with the “mountains” instead of moving and transforming them.
So what is the trap? Psalm 103:7 says Moses knew His ways and Israel knew His acts.
Steps, not a Process - There are steps to entering the Presence of God but we must be careful not to make it a Religious Process that eliminates God.
Don’t miss Him by looking at “It”! - The people were mesmerized by the Fire and missed his Face.
Arriving, or Did I? - Exodus 33:15 “If your presence does not go with us do not lead us up from here. God wanted to give Moses everything he Promised. The Land of his dreams and an Angel to lead him there. But Moses wanted His Face not his Hand.
Follow the Leader
Have everyone pray “God give me something for someone in this service today!”
In the very first message we talked about how the Glory of God showed up in the lives of Moses, Isaiah and Jesus. Every time the Glory or Presence arrived it was for a call to action of “Here I am, send me.”
As this is true my concern is that we have misinterpreted the order of things. As I entitled this “Follow the Leader” we need to understand that the Father wants the Glory to “Follow Us” and not us “Follow Glory.”
Many times in the church we think “When the Glory shows up I’ll believe on another level.” but the Father says “When you believe on another level then I will manifest my Glory on another level.” The greatest enemy of Faith is not fear it is sight.
I know I will get some resistance on this so lets prove it out.
Moses - Exodus 3:4 When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
God spoke, Moses responded.
He was called by God to deliver his people from Egypt.
Isaiah - We love the Glory of Isaiah 6 but he did not get there by mistake.
Isaiah 1 - He has a vision from God.
Isaiah 2 - He has a word from God.
Isaiah 6 - A great transformation - He saw God.
Jesus - Luke 3:21 21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Jesus responds with Luke 4 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
20 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down.
He became the redemption of all mankind.
God spoke, They responded, His Glory Came.
So what is the point that I am trying to make? The Glory is suppose to “Follow Us” and lead those who do not believe (saved or lost) to a deeper encounter with the Father.
John 16:13 “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”
I need you to begin to think of this as in different terminology. More than showing you what is going to happen tomorrow it is instruction for tomorrow.
God’s Presence/Glory is many times prefaced by his voice. (Hide and Seek #2) So when God speaks he is wanting to bring you into His presence.
Anytime that He speaks he wants to bring you into his presence but there must be a response by us.
So God can speak and us not respond and it stops the flow if His Glory.
Wow… I have stopped the Glory of God so many times.
Do you remember: What you Understand, you Value, What you Value, You Steward or Manage well. What you Steward/Manage well you Multiply you have Authority over.
I am determined to never fail another “Management Test!!”
Remember why does his Glory show up? The purpose of his of His glory for the setting free of his people from bondage and slavery.
How does this work?
God speaks, we respond, with our response people are set free and Glory happens.
That sounds so simple but when we have made our relationship a process and not a step, we stop the Glory.
We must fight to hear. That means inclining our ear, quieting everything that its drowning out the voice of God.
It is not that God isn't speaking, it is human nature to listen to the louder voice.
1 Kings 19:11-16
11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
During the first worship song - Time to hear his voice. Quit all other distractions.
During the second song - Have everyone pray “God give me something for someone in this service today!”
During the third song - We respond!
Go deliver the prayer, word of encouragement, blessing, etc… Watch the Glory Fall.
