The Grinch - Included - But Don't Belong #2

Let's give a special Thank You to all the volunteers who gave their time and talent for The Grinch set up.

Welcome back to TWBC and our interactive family series, The Grinch. Get ready because, in this scene, The Grinch makes his way to a celebration that is all about him. He is the honored guest at the 1000th Whoo-blation. During the celebration, he has a startling revelation, "What it feels like to be apart but not really belong."

Luke 2:8-20
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"

15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

The more of a privilege you consider something to be, the more responsibility you will take towards it. In this message, we must come to realize that "People are the Privilege!"

I believe God is giving us opportunities each week of our life, but because it looks incomplete, we overlook the power of it.
What happens when what was once considered privileged has now become common place? The funny thing is, what Mary was pondering about, she misplaced 21 verses later.

What are the good things God has done that we forget about 21 sentences later?
What if the good thing He gave you is an opportunity for you to experience him you never took. What if that experience is to help someone belong to him, not just get something from him?

"12 And this will be a sign for you"

Close

8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. All that you need to get you through your current situation and every situation is not far off. It is close by. Have you ever noticed, that Jesus uses what is close by to do his miracles?

He used water jars to turn water into wine. He used 5 Loaves and 2 Fish that were there. Here he uses Shepherd "in the same region."

Who is in your life that is so close Jesus can't use because you keep overlooking it?
Who is someone you are grateful for outside of your household that is in your everyday life?
Is it possible that we view them as common because they are close? In doing so, we miss who Jesus wants to use?

Alone = An Emergency - Any alone person in our services is an emergency.

Common

12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." The miracle was in something that everybody had already been to and walked away from.
What was common was actually the sign. "A baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger."

What is in your life that is common, that if you visited it again, God can show you the miracle lying right in front of you?

Look Again! Look at your spouse again, your child again, the person in this worship center again.

Who is someone common in your life that is close to you that you need to "Look Again?"

The Café is for Connections, not just coffee - Introduce a new person or alone person to

someone by bringing them coffee.

Concerning

17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. The Shepherds relayed to Mary the compliments concerning her son given by the Angel.

"11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
Because they are "Close and Common," we never tell them what is "Concerning Them." If we want the

celebration at the end, we need to move in the "Concerning Them moment" of right now.

It is not a "new word" that you need. It is the delivery of the "concerning word" you already have.

When Jesus came to the earth as a baby, it wasn't a new word. He was the word from the beginning, but at just the right time, He delivered the word to you.
The term "just the right time" means appointed time or
Kairos.

Galatians 4:4 "4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. Romans 5:6 "6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly."

This moment we are in is another Kairos time. This is a time appointed by God for you. This is the "concerning word" for you. This isn't a new word but a Kairos word asking if you know Jesus.
