The Art of War - Sour About Life #3

Opening Scripture: Genesis 13:14-18

The Vision for 2020 is ALIVE - Grow, Build, Live. The quickest way for ALIVE to die is to assault the family. This series is about having proper strategies to have successful families. (Graphic)

The Art of War is an ancient Chinese military treatise dating from roughly 5th century BC composed by Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu /'soon DZOO’/ composed of 13 chapters. Each one is devoted to an aspect of warfare and how it applies to military strategy and tactics. The Art of War remains the most influential strategy text in East Asian warfare and has influenced both Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy, lifestyles and beyond.

Treatise /ˈtrēdis/ - a written work dealing formally and systematically with a subject.

Scripture Reference: Genesis 13:14-18

14 The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, 15 for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. 16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if one can count the dust of the earth, your offspring also can be counted. 17 Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land, for I will give it to you.” 18 So Abram moved his tent and came and settled by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.

What time does to food it also does to the family. If there is no strategy for your family, you’ll watch your family move from stale, to stagnant, to soured.

We find ourselves asking the question? When did that happen? There must be a Strategy for your family because time will always take its toll.

We have all heard the phrase “It’s just my lot in life.”

This is the ultimate of “stale” statements.

“The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him” vs.14

What can God not say to you, that He wants to reveal to you, because He can’t say it in the presence of Lot.

What is God asking you to separate from so He can speak to you again.

Sometimes staleness is from people. The people who comforted you when you stepped out confine the voice of God now.

It is not by coincidence that God spoke after Lot moved.

Lot is the symbol of your attachment to where you were.

                        Lot is comfortable

                        Lot is familiar

What are you dragging into your destiny that is a symbol of your history?

That Fight, that you keep fighting about, that started 10 years ago.

That Mistake, that you won’t let the other out live.

The Tendency that your child had, and has outgrown, but because we haven’t grown, they are still labeled.

If the enemy cannot destroy your dream, he will deceive you into carrying dirt of your history forward into your destiny.

When Lot (stale lifestyles) disappeared, God reappeared.

What do you need to give up so that you can hear God speak in a fresh way again?

“Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are

How far you see is an indicator of how stagnant you are. How far do you see?... or can you see past where you are at all?

How far do you see your marriage? How far do you see your kids? Is this a wish of “Happily Ever After” or a true Strategy for the Family?

1 Day - Most people live day to day with no real vision.

1 Week - Some people have a true plan for week to week.

1 Year - Few people can plan a year out.

1 Decade - Most just have a wish with a Bon Jovi theme song “Livin on a Prayer.”

My greatest challenge is living in the now and living in the vision 10 years from now at the same time.

God is trying to get you to see beyond the stagnation of your situation.

Stagnant Stinks… What stinks about your life right now?

“Arise, walk through the length and the breadth of the land” vs.17

Could you be sour about life because you’re working from a model that doesn’t fit where you are going?

Boxes have boundaries, edges, length, breadth and defined borders.

Some of you have boxed yourself in with boundaries God didn’t build.

Souring happens because you are confined to a container you are supposed to be poured out of.

Could some of your frustration be that life hasn’t used up the resources that God put in you.

Are you asking to be free or just asking for a bigger container?

“18 So Abram moved his tent…”

Staleness, Stagnant and Soured all happen because there is no movement.

God won’t bring “it” to your tent even though He has already given it to you.

God is trying to create a flow out of your life, but you have to Move.

What has God willed for your to have, that you have not received because His source no longer has access to your stale, stagnant and soured soul.

The Art of War is:

“Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are.”

This is for everyone Lost and Saved… if you need Jesus to flow into your life for the first time or just start flowing once again “Lift up your eyes.”

Psalm 121:1-2

“I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
