Stranger Things – You’re Not That Weird #1

Scripture Reference: II Kings 6:8-20

Stranger Things - ‘Stranger Things’ is a series on Netflix. The setting is in 1980s Indiana, where a group of young friends witness supernatural forces. As they search for answers, the children unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries.

You’re not that weird, but you do have to realize there is a supernatural side to life that is more real than the natural, physical world you operate in.

You’re not the only one with your problem.

II Kings 6:8-20

Once when the king of Syria was warring against Israel, he took counsel with his servants, saying, “At such and such a place shall be my camp.” But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are going down there.” 10 And the king of Israel sent to the place about which the man of God told him. Thus he used to warn him, so that he saved himself there more than once or twice.

11 And the mind of the king of Syria was greatly troubled because of this thing, and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me who of us is for the king of Israel?” 12 And one of his servants said, “None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.” 13 And he said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and seize him.” It was told him, “Behold, he is in Dothan.” 14 So he sent there horses and chariots and a great army, and they came by night and surrounded the city.

15 When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” 16 He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18 And when the Syrians came down against him, Elisha prayed to the Lord and said, “Please strike this people with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness in accordance with the prayer of Elisha.

Stranger Things - You’re not that weird, but you do have to realize there is a supernatural side to life that is more real than the natural, physical world you operate in.

3 Things about the Stranger Things Series.

  1. Faith will become real.
  2. Reality of what is actually happening in your life.
  3. Seeing, Hearing & Feeling

Theme of the Message: For you to actually see what you are going through and not just physically see what you are going through.

It is not your Point Of View, it is the Perspective From Your View that will give you power to see.

Sometimes the we think God is giving us a pathway out, but what if actually, He is creating a pathway for Him to get in.

We are wanting translation, but God works on interpretation.

Translation - the process of translating words or text from one language into another

A translation about the same situation means you’ll have the same problem, just from a different point of view.

The struggle occurs because your situation is never moved by translation. You’re just getting the same problem in a different text.

Illustration: Spanish Translation - Kid/Baby Goat.

A Translation means, we are wanting our problems in a different text to justify our reasons not to change.

We will read a passage of scripture from 10 different translations hoping it’ll change but maybe it is not the Bible that needs to change; Maybe it is Me!

Interpretation - the action of explaining the meaning of something.

“Translation - is a process,” “Interpretation - is an action”

When we ask for the interpretation, we want more than our point of view; we want a heavenly perspective of our view.

Genesis 40:8 They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”

            Meaning “Interpretation Belongs to God.”

Sometimes your enemy is not your problem. It is your purpose! If you only have a translation, you’ll keep asking God to take it away.

If you get an interpretation, you’ll realize what you thought was a problem is the pathway to your new position.

            The problem has a purpose.

The event is not the same as the interpretation. You need to start seeing it differently. Situation is not the same as interpretation.

Philippians 1:12-13

12 I want you to know, brothers,[a] that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ.

            Event: Imprisonment

Interpretation: what has happened to me has really served to advance the Gospel

What happened to me is nearly as important as the interpretation of what God is actually doing in me.

Advancing - to make headway in spite of sever blows.

Interpretation is Life

With God, many things physically would translated to death, but the interpretation is life.

The cross of Jesus Christ translated to death, but the interpretation is Life.

What happened to me is nearly as important as the interpretation of what God is actually doing in me.
