Squad – P.O.W. #3
Opening Scripture: II Corinthians 10:3-6
II Corinthians 10:3-6
3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.
4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Why do we need a squad? Because we are waging war!
We all know P.O.W. is an acronym for Prisoner of War. What we may not know is that we are a P.O.W. even though we are freely sitting in the House of God this morning.
Our objective is this: To Release Prisoners and Captives.
This is why a Squad, or at TWBC we call it GroupLife, is so important. If you are imprisoned, you cannot set yourself free or you already would have.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,because the Lord has anointed meto bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor,”
Jesus goes on the quote this scripture in Luke 4:18-20, declaring what the objective of his ministry is.
Transformational Thinking Moment:
If the preaching of our ministers and the practice of TWBC does not have the same effect on people that Jesus had, then we must not be declaring the same message that Jesus did.
If we are talking about P.O.W.’s, there are 2 terms in the above text that we will land on.
“to proclaim liberty to the captives”
“opening of the prison to those who are bound”
So, we have 2 distinct people mentioned. Captives & Prisoners.
Captives and Prisoners
Captives – Victims of the War
Things that happen to you that you had no control over.
Examples: Abuses in your childhood, addicted parents, just bad things that you had no control over.
Prisoners – Captured in the War
Things that you did have control over, but you didn’t control, and “missed the mark”; sin issues.
Do I need to give examples? (say jokingly)
Whether you are a prisoner or a captive you are still in a 6X8 jail cell and need freedom.
Get Out – How you got there is one thing; getting out is another. This is why we need GroupLife.
How did I get here, imprisoned?
Strongholds– these are ungodly areas of your life that control you. You cannot seem to get right and it doesn’t matter how hard you try. That is why they are “Strongholds” and they are demonic.
Speculations– these are lies that control you because you believe the lie about yourself
lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God- these are lies that control you because you believe the lie about God
If we are going to get out of prison, we need the Key.
17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Jesus declares 2 things:
The (prison gates) gates of hell shall not prevail (have power over) you.
You will get keys that will loose things in heaven and in the earth.
The power that this is done in is Exousia. (Greek)
This definition is “power of one’s choice.”
But the key to using this power is not making the choice of “Doing Right and Wrong” but the power of what you come into agreement with.
Amos 3:3 How do two walk together unless they agree.
If we are imprisoned we have made “agreement” with strongholds, lies about ourselves or lies about Daddy God.
The best part is how simple it is to get out of prison.
Exercise: Break Agreement
You are not alone. You have a Squad, GroupLife is here to help you get set free.
