Seasons or Roller-Coasters

Opening Scripture: Philippians 4:11-13

 Philippians 4:11-13

11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Change? It is the most uncomfortable thing for anybody to go through. So how do you approach the “Seasons” of your life?

Now notice I said “Seasons” not rollercoasters. If you have a roller-coaster life you need to realize that even Amusement Parks are only open for a Season.

Season Changes: Summer to Fall, TWBC in many areas: Kids, RAGE StuMin, Group Life, Pastoral Changes, School starting back.

Philippians 4:11

11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

Content is not a popular word in the American Culture because on many levels the “Spirit of   Comparison” has permeated every aspect of our culture.

The Key: The Key to successfully moving out of one season and moving into the start of the next season is found in the definition of content.

Content- "sufficient for oneself, strong enough or possessing enough to need no aid or support;       independent of external circumstances

The big difference between the seasons of the year and the seasons of your life is that every 3 months you know the earthly season is about to change. In our personal lives we expect the outside seasons to change but not the seasons of our life.

The only difference is we are expecting one and other overtakes us. They seem to blindside us and catch us off guard.

R or R

We have all heard the term R&R (Rest & Relaxation), but we never arrive there because we haven’t assessed the “R or R”.

R or R is React or Respond.

Psalm 1:3 “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”

Have you ever noticed that a tree does not panic when it starts losing it’s leaves?

A tree does not react to the changing of the seasons, but it responds appropriately.

It is planted, it yields, it produces, its leaf doesn’t wither (Summer Heat) and this process is consistent every year.

Responding can only come from the Jesus inside of you because you are “independent of external circumstances.” Reacting is when the circumstances get ahold of you!

Still Victims

Matthew 16:1-3

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them,“When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.

The Pharisees and Sadducees were victims then of their knowledge the exact same way we are victims today.

Jesus was saying “You can tell all the physical signs around you but do not the Spiritual “Season      of the Messiah” in from of you.

L.U.V. Your Season

For you to see the season you are in, you need to “Respond” to the Season Maker and not “React” to the external circumstances of it.

Listen: Who are you listening to the Trial or the Teacher.

Understand: Is this a Roller-Coaster Consequence or a Season where leaves are changing?

Validate: God, #GroupLife and Grow: Validating the season is done in 3 confirmations.

God – God will confirm through inner peace

GroupLife – Godly Seasoned believers in Christ.

Grow – You will see yourself growing through it.

What is your Response?
