Planted - 2018 Vision #1
Planted - “Fruit where you are, Roots where you’re Growing.”
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18 A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.”
33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
I want to clarify an “untruth” so we can start with the truth. Sometimes people come up with neat phrases that sound spiritual and sincere but are sincerely wrong.
One of those phrases is “Don’t be a fruit inspector be a root inspector.”
Jesus uses earthly illustrations to convey a Spiritual Principle (Reality)
Jesus said “You will recognize them by their fruits.” Matthew 7:16 also Matthew 12:33 says “for the tree is known by its fruit.”
His earthly illustration is Fruit and Trees. His spiritual principle is that you can tell almost everything you need to know about the tree being good or bad by its Fruit.
Fruit where you Are.
Are we producing Fruit or just Vegetation?
The purpose of Fruit is to duplicate the Tree. The purpose of you is to duplicate Jesus.
The purpose of Vegetation or Leaves are to absorb the essential things needed to the survival of the tree.
Leaves are consumers and Fruit are producers. (Everyone needs to consume but not confuse.)
Many Believers think they are producing Fruit when in actuality we are just producing Vegetation.
There is nothing wrong with producing vegetation. It is needed and it is essential for the survival of the tree.
Just do not deceive yourself on what you are producing.
Coming to Church - Vegetation Inviting/Bringing someone to church - Fruit
Reading your Bible - Vegetation Doing what the Bible says - Fruit
Listening to a Pod Cast - Vegetation Listening to Christian Music - Vegetation
***The blessing line at Starbucks - only the first person produced fruit
Many Believers are in a Vegetative State. How do we produce?
Vegetation produces Fruit through activation.
Roots where you’re Growing.
We care more about investing into you than we care about what TWBC can get from you.
Good Gifts vs. Supreme Value -
If we do not determine the difference between Good Gifts vs. Supreme Value the Good Gifts will become Bad Gods.
Good Gifts are good things but they always compete with the decisions of Supreme Value in your life.
Decisions of Supreme Value are the over arching values you want to put in place to set the structure of your life.
3 Keys to “Roots”
- Attending - 3 Sunday’s per month. National statistics show active church attendance is 1.8 Sundays a month.
- Inviting - Inviting means Invested. If you won’t invite someone it is because of one of 2 reasons: A Fruit Issue or A Root Issue. You’re Not Producing or You’re Not Planted.
- Invest - Time (Attending), Talent (Fruit or Inviting), Tithe (Financially)
The Take Away:
What Fruit can you begin to produce right now?
What roots do we need to develop to get us to where we are Growing?
