O Christmas Tree – The Tree – Artificial or Real #2

Opening Scripture: Luke 2:8-16

Luke 2:8-16

And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

In this series we are putting ourselves in the position of the Christmas Tree. Last message was the story of Two Trees, this week’s message is about settling the age old Tree debate of “Artificial or Real.”

I often wonder what it would be like to be the tree that was covered in the blood of Jesus, not the first tree but the second tree (The Cross).

What would the tree say if it could talk?

But wait… why is a tree telling the story that I was created to tell.

When I was washed in the blood of Jesus:

My sin is paid for once and for all.

13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctifyfor the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify ourconscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Hebrews 9:13-14

I Can Enter Into the Holy Place…and Live

19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:19-22

I Am Justified

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.

(Romans 5:8-9)

I Am Forgiven

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight

(Ephesians 1:7-8)

I Am Healed

22 He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

 (I Peter 2:22-24)

I Am Alive

ButGod, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

(Ephesians 2:4-7)

I Am At Peace With God

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faithinto this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

(Romans 5:1-2)

I Am Cleansed

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

(I John 1:7)

I Am Reconciled

20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

(II Corinthians 5:20-21)

I Am Accepted

12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

(Ephesians 2:12-13)

I Have A New Kingdom

11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanksto the Father, who has qualified youto share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

(Colossians 1:11-13)

I Am Righteous

20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

 (2 Corinthians 5:20-21)

I Am Redeemed

18 knowing that you were ransomed (Christ paid the ransom) from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

(1 Peter 1:18-19)

I Am Loved

and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

(Revelation 1:5-6)

I Am Free

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

 (Galatians 5:1)

I Am New

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

II Corinthians 5:17

I Have Total Victory

11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them!

 (Revelation 12:11-12)

The Expiation

I would say this “When the blood of Jesus hit the dead wood of the second tree, the Cross, the tree had more life in that moment than at any of other time in it’s existence.

Leviticus 17:11 “11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to             make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.”

Expiation- ex·pi·a·tion /ˌekspēˈāSH(ə) noun -the act of making amends or reparation for guilt or wrongdoing; atonement.

                        Jesus is the public expiation!

                        Jesus is the perfect expiation!

Jesus is the final expiation; act of making amends or reparation for guilt or wrongdoing!

Artificial becomes Real

Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, let us reasontogether, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

It is not until red becomes white does the Artificial becomes Real.

If you are living an artificial life, the blood of Jesus will make you Real

If you are dead, come to the blood and experience Life.
