Lyft – Going Up #2
What is Lyft?
It is a Ride Share business like Uber or Grab.
Lyft, Inc. is a transportation network company based in San Francisco, California and operating in 640 cities in the United States and 9 cities in Canada. It operates by the Lyft mobile app, offering car rides, scooters, and a bicycle-sharing system. Lyft is now worth $15.1 billion.
What if your breakthrough is as simple as a sharing a bicycle? What if the Lyft you need is as simple as a scooter?
Have you ever gotten on an elevator and you were needing to go “Up,” but when you got in, it goes all the way to the bottom? Even worse, the elevator seems to stop on every floor on the way down.
Floors are not opposed to your dream they are apart of the dream. They are a part even though they are the part we don’t like.
Recap the story of Joseph
5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more.
What do you do when the ones you thought would celebrate you collaborate against you?
People collaborate more than celebrate.
Joseph in the book of Genesis was stripped 3 times on the way to the palace. We love the palace but not the peeling off. We love the prominence, but don’t want to pay the price.
His brothers stripped him of his robe of favor.
Potiphar’s wife stripped him of his overcoat of authority.
The jailer stripped of his prison clothes in prison before he could go to the palace.
18 They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. 19 They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer.20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits. Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.”
Your dream must first be re-dreamed - meaning redeemed.
When God shows us a dream, we steal it instead of steward it. When we take possession of it, we are sure to screw it up.
The greatest disappointments in my life have been because of my great expectations going unmet! Many times, our Great Expectations were not Godly from the onset but Greedy.
“I love me some me!”
God showed Joseph a dream, but He couldn’t bring it to pass until it was redeemed.
But I pressed up!
11 But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, 12 she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house.
Things go wrong for 3 reasons: Dumb, Devil and Dream
#1 Sometimes we make Dumb decisions. - Take responsibility!
#2 Sometimes it is the Devil. - I Lyft My Eyes
Psalm 121:1-3 “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.”
#3 Sometimes it is a floor on the way to the Dream. - I didn’t do anything wrong!
Ephesians 2:6-8 “6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”
I may be stripped but I still know where I am seated!
If it is a floor on the way to my dream God is not punishing me, He is preparing me.
I know this opposition in now an opportunity because I know that this is just a floor, a momentary stopping point.
God is bigger than our Dumbs, He’s already defeated our Devils and He is the Author of the Dreams.
What if it is slow, not because God is punishing you, but because He is preparing you.
A few months ago, I was in Vietnam in one of the tallest buildings in the world, 81 floors. The amazing thing is this elevator can go from bottom to top in less than 50 seconds, 24 feet (8 meters)/second.
But, what if the dream isn’t progressing at the pace we would like? In fact, we want to microwave it, when God says it is a crock pot recipe.
14 Only remember me, when it is well with you, and please do me the kindness to mention me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this house. 15 For I was indeed stolen out of the land of the Hebrews, and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the pit.”
23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
What do you do with “Forgotten?” Does anyone remember me?
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they quickly brought him out of the pit. And when he had shaved himself and changed his clothes, he came in before Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream…”
What if the key to your dream, is you being the answer to some else’s dream?
What changed? When Joseph was being stripped of his dignity, he was actually being dressed for his destiny.
When Jesus was stripped of his dignity on the cross, He was writing your destiny with his blood.
The pit was just a floor. Potiphar’s house was just a floor. The prison was just a floor. The palace was just a floor.
The dream is more alive than it has ever been, but it also looks different than I thought it would look.
We all end the story with the “Palace” being the fulfillment of the dream. It wasn’t the palace but the “Presence” that was the fulfillment. When his brothers came into his presence, he understood the plans of God.
It is the Presence of God that will help us understand the and see the fulfillment of the plans of God.
The cross was the floor for forgiveness, but Jesus didn’t get off on that floor. He stopped at it, but He said I’m going on up to a floor called Resurrection. Because, it is the resurrection that will bring the fulfillment of the Presence.
