Love is in the “Heir” – Daily Dilemma #2

Opening Scripture: Daniel 1:1-5

In this series our Impact is to rekindle the 2 major covenants in our life. Our Covenant with the Father, and if you’re married, our Covenant with our spouse.

Daniel 1:1-5

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God. And he brought them to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god. Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family[a] and of the nobility, youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans. The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king. Among these were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah of the tribe of Judah. And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.

In the book of Daniel, he begins to show us a modern-day dilemma that is diminishing the power of our Covenant with Christ.

The dilemma is, the covenant from God’s side is as powerful as it has ever been, so if the power is diminished is it coming from our side.

Culture Shifts

How is this “diminishing” occurring? This occurs usually right under our nose because of shifts in culture.

The Seven Spheres (Mountains) of Influence:

            Family:

            Religion:

            Economy:

            Education:

            Government:

            Arts/Media:

            Science/Technology:

Everything about your life is influenced by these 7 areas. All of these areas are many times Worldly Culture and not Kingdom Culture.

The Problem: Our thoughts are more shaped by the “present evil/issues around us than the promise of God in us.”

Our side of the Covenant is diminishing, but God has called us to set the culture not reflect the culture.

Daniel had to navigate a Jewish faith in an ungodly Babylonian culture. He lived his faith successfully and he not only survived it but had influence in it, without compromising his faith.

The Strategy of Captivity

Indoctrination

Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family[a] and of the nobility, youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.

Indoctrinate –to train, teach or force a person or group to accept a set of beliefs uncritically.

Vs 4 “to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.”

The number one way we go into captivity is the enemy changes our language. He entices us to speak out of our feelings and emotions, which always change, rather than the Word of God.

Example: Using marriage as an example, because this is the “Love is in the Heir” series, the language of the water cooler, or the language of venting.

The language and what you are being taught in those environments is indoctrinating you into the something other than God’s culture and Words of our Covenant.

But the strategy of the enemy, when used properly, can be used for your benefit. Remember “to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.”

So for us our literature is the Bible and God gave us all a new language, our prayer language.

This is why reading the Bible and Praying is so important. It is our literature and language.

Source

The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king.

Once you are indoctrinated in your thinking the next step in strategy is to change your source or food supply.

So, the deception strategy is, satan is going to change what you say (language and literature) and then change your source (food and drink).

The Hebrew eating requirements were not that of verse 5 “The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank.”

Once you start thinking differently (indoctrinate), you’ll start eating differently. This is the slippery slope that is so dangerous.

Example: When you are struggling in your marriage relationship many of us eat and drink from a myriad of sources except the Word of God and get “words” from every place but the Holy Spirit.

The Word of God is your indoctrinating literature but also the Bread of Life.

The enemy wants to distort your source of what you eat and drink.

Rename

Among these were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah of the tribe of Judah. And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.

The final step in strategy is to trying and rename you. First, he will try and change your language and your literature. Second, he will try and change your source. Third, he will change your name.

When the name change happens, he’s won, because he just changed your identity.

And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names: Daniel he called Belteshazzar, Hananiah he called Shadrach, Mishael he called Meshach, and Azariah he called Abednego.

Listen to how they tried to change the identity of the men.

Daniel – God is my Judge

Belteshazzar – lady protect the king

Hananiah – Yahweh has been gracious

Shadrach – I am afraid of God

Mishael – who is what God is

Meshach – despised, contemptible, humiliated

Azariah – Yahweh has helped

Abednego – servant of Nebo

Example: Some of you, if you look back you’ll see this is exactly how it happened. Your language and literature changed, then your source of input or food changed then you identity went from Married to Divorced.

Many of you were divorced in your identity before you ever went to the courthouse.

This is every area of life and not just marriage. Marriage is just the illustration because of the series we are in.

It is time to reclaim your name!

Next Steps and Group Life are so important because it is a step by step path to have you reclaim your name.
