I Saw The Sign – What Sign #2

Opening Scripture: John 2:1-11

We will be using the account for John 2:1-11 for this whole series.

John 2:1-11

1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

The purpose of this series is to help us see the sign, but not stop at the sign but recognize where the sign is telling you to Go.

A lot of us have seen the Signs all around the TWBC Facility for Next Steps and GroupLife. Don’t stop at it, go to it. Get involved in Next Steps and GroupLife.

This series is meant to be Practical. I hope you learn something new, but more than that, I want us to practically apply what we know.

It is not the amount of knowledge you have but the amount that you use.

You know what Ph.D. stands for – Piled Higher and Deeper but I want it to be Practical, Holy and Deliverable.

I want to live out my level of “Spirituality” by being Practical, Holy and Deliverable not Piled, Higher and Deeper making me Pharisitical.

Invited

1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.

Mary was invited and Jesus was invited.

A lot of us want what is related to Jesus, but do we really want Jesus?

This says, “Jesus was also invited.”

Healing is related to Jesus, but do you want the Healer?

The healing will get you through, but the Healer will transform you.

                        Provision, Provider

                        Sustained, Supplier

Do you want to get through or do you want to be transformed? Getting through comes with what is related to Jesus but transformation comes from Jesus.

If our attachment is to what is related to Him, we will always run out. If our attachment is to the revelation of Him, we will never run out.

Get Your Invitations Ready! He is trying to get you past the point of running out.

Inform vs. Involve

John 2:3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”

Mary didn’t come to Jesus to inform Him, she came to involve Him.

Signs are trying to involve you, not just inform you.

When we get pulled over by the police for speeding our common response is “What Sign?”

Everything that we are going through in life is an opportunity for you to send an invitation to involve Jesus not just inform Him, but our response is “What Sign?”

Good– We acknowledge Him when things are good, but do you let Him celebrate with you in the Goodness.

Bad– We cry out to Him save us, but if we don’t let Him celebrate in the goodness, we confirm that we want just what is related to Him.

Normal – Don’t rock the boat. Don’t make me depend on Jesus, “I’m Good.” We want Him close enough to get to but far enough away that we are not inconvenienced by Him.

The Envelope

Whenever you send out invitations to people you want their involvement. That is why it says “RSVP.” You have to get past the envelope to get to the invitation. There is something just below the surface of the envelope.

The surface is not the story. Some of us are only looking at the surface therefor we are overcome by the waves of our circumstance. When you dive below the surface you get into His current. (Scuba Dive Illustration.)

We have got to get past the envelope and get to the invitation.

John 2:3-5

When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Mary didn’t come to Jesus to inform him, she came to involve Him.

Most of say we are praying but we are worrying with our eyes closed. We need to send an invitation to Jesus that will involve Him not inform Him. He already knows the wine is gone.

Some of us come to Jesus to inform Him because we never involved Him, He’s only the afterthought. This results in us approaching Him out of guilt not faith.

We can’t let our past get in the way of our pursuit.

Your past is not your present and it is definitely not your prophecy. But you must go to the person who understands that there is something deeper than the surface.

PHD = We must send Jesus an Invite because we need His involvement!
