I Saw The Sign – Common Signs #3
Opening Scripture: John 2:1-11
We will be using the account for John 2:1-11 for this whole series.
1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
The purpose of this series is to help us see the sign, but not stop at the sign but recognize where the sign is telling you to Go.
A lot of us have seen the Signs all around the TWBC Facility for Next Steps and GroupLife. Don’t stop at it, go to it. Get involved in Next Steps and GroupLife.
This series is meant to be Practical. I hope you learn something new, but more than that, I want us to practically apply what we know.
It is not the amount of knowledge you have but the amount that you use.
You know what Ph.D. stands for – Piled Higher and Deeper but I want it to be Practical, Holy and Deliverable.
I want to live out my level of “Spirituality” by being Practical, Holy and Deliverable not Piled, Higher and Deeper making me Pharisitical.
“6 Now there were six stone water jars there”
All that you need to get you through your current situation and every situation is not far off. It is close by.
Have you ever noticed, that Jesus uses what is close by to do his miracles?
He used water jars.
He used 5 Loaves and 2 Fish that were there.
He used spit and dirt.
We love the term supernatural, but we want the “super” before we recognize the natural.
For the supernatural to occur:
You have to recognize what is missing in the natural, the wine. What is missing that we need Jesus to touch?
You have to recognize what we have in the natural, water jars. What can Jesus touch to fix the need that is missing?
We are so busy pointing to what is not there that we miss what Jesus wants to use.
“6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.”
The miracle was in something that everybody had already been to, washed in and walked away from.
What is in your life that is common, that if you poured yourself into it again, God can begin to flow again into your life.
It is not about getting a newer model but pouring yourself into what you already have.
You do not need a new car, house, spouse you need to pour yourself into and steward what you have.
You are anointed! Whatever you intentionally pour yourself into life will flow into it again.
“8 And he said to them, “Now draw some outand take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.”
You already have everything God needs you to have to get you on the way to the miracle that you don’t have.
We do not need more, we need Courage.
We do not need more things to fix it, we need Courage to use what we have. It is not in the knowing but in the doing that the miracle happens.
Because it is “Close and Common” we never move into “Current” or Now. But if we want the celebration at the end of the story, we need to move in the Now of what we already Know.
God only spoke through a burning bush 1 time. Your next step in something you already know to do.
It is not in a new workout plan but getting the courage to put the shoes on you already have.
It is not in a new marriage but getting the courage to listen to the person living in the house with you.
It is not in a new Bible but getting the courage to open the one you already have.
It is not in a better sermon but getting the courage to get up and go Now to a prayer team member.
We want to apply more knowledge to the last thing He told us to do that we didn’t do.
Everything you are running out of is in Jesus. If you will go to him, who is life, and “Now draw some out” He will begin to flow through you again.
