Greederosity – LIVE #4
Scripture Reference: John 2:1-11
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”4 And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
The paradox of the Gospel is “You only get to keep what you give away; what you hold on to you don’t get to have.”
LIVE - Giving is Living (5:00 min)
Everything that God does for you in an invitation for you to see who He wants to be to you.
If we only live at the level of what He does for us, we miss what He is pointing to that He wants to be to us. Consequently, we will receive resource from Him and miss the Revelation of Him. (Repeat 3 times)
If our attachment is to the resource, we will always run out at some point. If our attachment is to the revelation of Him, we will never run out.
This is why we get so excited when God does a miracle for the first time, but we struggle with the same issue a second time. We saw the manifestation, but we missed the invitation. (10:00 min)
1On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.
Mary was invited and Jesus was invited.
A lot of us want what is related to Jesus, but do we really want Jesus?
This says, “Jesus was also invited.”
Healing is related to Jesus, but do you want the Healer?
The healing will get you through, but the Healer will transform you.
We must ask ourselves “Do you want to get through or do you want to be transformed?”
Getting through comes with what is related to Jesus but transformation comes from Jesus.
If our attachment is to what is related to Him, we will always run out (Greederosity). If our attachment is to the revelation of Him, we will never run out (Generosity).
Get Your Invitations Ready! He is trying to get you past the point of running out. (15:00 min)
Inform vs. Involve
John 2:3 3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”
Mary didn’t come to Jesus to inform Him, she came to involve Him.
Opportunities are trying to involve you, not just inform you.
Illustration - Birthday party Invitations: We send invitation to parents to Inform them, but addressed to your kids to Involve them.
Everything that we are going through in life is an opportunity for you to send an invitation to involve Jesus not just inform Him, but our response is “What Invitation?”
Good – We acknowledge Him when things are good, but do you let Him celebrate with you in the Goodness.
Bad – We cry out to Him save us, but if we don’t let Him celebrate in the goodness, we confirm that we want just what is related to Him.
Normal – City Loop. Don’t make me depend on Jesus, “I’m Good.” We want Him close enough to get to Him but far enough away that we are not inconvenienced by Him. (20:00 min)
Whenever you send out invitations to people you want their involvement. That is why it says “RSVP.” You have to get past the envelope to get to the invitation. There is something just below the surface of the envelope.
The surface is not the story. Some of us are only looking at the surface therefor we are overcome by the waves of our circumstance. When you dive below the surface you get into His current. (Scuba Dive Illustration.)
We have got to get past the envelope and get to the invitation. (25:00 min)
Jesus is not looking at the envelop of your life, but He is checking if there is an invitation in your heart. This morning he wants to see what is below the surface.
