From the Heart - Do It On Purpose

 Opening Scripture: Acts 1:4-10

As we get into the Word of God today can we celebrate the Online Church Team for all they do.

This is a series called from the “From the Heart.” In this series I am sharing my heart with you but for you to know God’s heart for you.

This is Pentecost Sunday. What does that Mean?

What is Pentecost?

Pentecost simply means 50 (referring to days)

3 Major Feasts in the Bible, there are others but these are the main three - Passover, Pentecost & Tabernacles

Passover - Fulfilled in Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection.

Pentecost - Fulfilled in the outpouring of the HS

Tabernacles - Has not been fulfilled yet. It is the catching away of the Church.

Leviticus 23:15-16 Explains 50 days

15 “You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. 16 You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord.

Acts 1:4-10

And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

Acts 2:1-4 & 41

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

God wants to have “Encounters” with you.

Encounter - a face to face meeting; He wants to see you and for you to see Him.

All through the scriptures God created a place to have Encounters with his people.

The earth was place created so that God could come and have a real Encounter with his people.

The Tabernacle in the Wilderness was a place created for God to have a real Encounter with people.

The Temple was a place created for God to have a real Encounter with his people.

The New Covenant was created for God to have a real Encounter with Us!

Pentecost and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was for more than an Encounter it was for God to Abide with us forever.

Forced Faith or Purposed Faith

II Chronicles 2:1 “Now Solomon purposed to build a temple for the name of the Lord…”

When is the last time you “purposed” to do something?

Many of us live in “Forced or Crisis Faith”. We do not stand in faith or go before God until the crisis hits.

Illustration: 911 Faith - 911 What is your emergency?

The Test at School, The Ticket for Speeding, etc… “Oh God, if you just get me out of this, I’ll never do it again. Notice I’m keeping it G-Rated.

Living in Forced Faith only gets you Rescued Results.

Once you get out of the problem you go back to your old way of living.

Forced Faith may get you rescued results, but Purposed Faith will get you to the Presence.

The Takeaway from this whole message is - “Do It On Purpose”

Purposed Faith will get you Promised Results.

Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

Jeremiah 29:13-14 “13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, declares the Lord,…”

What are you seeking, Him or His Benefits Package? The whole purpose is to find Him.

To many times the “Him”, God Himself, is just a benefits package to the Church and not the central focus of the church.

            God’s Promised results are Himself!

Purposed Faith will get you into the Presence.

II Chronicles 5:11-13 11 And when the priests came out of the Holy Place (for all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves, without regard to their divisions,12 and all the Levitical singers, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, their sons and kinsmen, arrayed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, stood east of the altar with 120 priests who were trumpeters; 13 and it was the duty of the trumpeters and singers to make themselves heard in unison in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord), and when the song was raised, with trumpets and cymbals and other musical instruments, in praise to the Lord, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever,”

the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, 14 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

The Cloud represents God. Watch how close this correlates to the fulfillment of Pentecost in Acts 2.

They set themselves apart - The Upper Room

Offering up Worship - Offering up Prayers

                        120 - 120

                        Unison - In One Accord

The Glory came and they couldn't minister - The Glory came and they “could” minister.

                        Both Houses we filled.
