Everyday Life – Does She Get It? #4

Opening Scripture: Matthew 6:10-11

God wants to use you Everyday “On The Way!”

  1. Dress Casual Series... it is Everyday Life.
  2. I will say or do things to specifically show the disconnect between

Matthew 6:10-1110 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread

In the opening message of this series we are establishing 2 things:

  1. Show the disconnect between
  2. For vs. 10 to happen, “the kingdom of God to come,” it is not “Suddenly” but in the “Everyday Life!”

Almost every Miracle happened “Everyday – On The Way” not as a specialized set moment in time.

As we are in this series we are going to follow the life of Martha. Most of us would say “Oh Pastor, I just love to be life Mary and sit at the feet of Jesus and worship.” But the truth is 99% of us fall into the Martha Category.

Luke 10:38-42 - Martha and Mary

38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving (or obligation). And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

            She doesn’t get it?

John 11:5-6 - Lazarus

Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was.

John 11:17-27

17 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two milesoff, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother.20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” 27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

She doesn’t get it, even though she gave the right answer.

The right answer given in the wrong motives is still a wrong answer.

John 12:1-2

1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served,

            Martha served!

            Martha served with no:

  • Obligation
  • Manipulation
  • Victimization
  • Interpretation
  • Expectations

What did she get?

That her Work is her Worship and her Worship is her Work.

Romans 12:1 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers by the mercies of God, to present your bodies    (your Everyday Life) as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

I am saying it one last time… Anything (Fun, Church, Career, Hobbies, Dinner) done outside of the Presence of God is Sin!

The Mop is just as important as the Guitar.

How will you do Everyday Life?
