Everyday Life – 3 Waves #2

  1. God wants to use you Everyday “On The Way!”
  2. Dress Casual Series... it is Everyday Life.
  3. I will say or do things to specifically show the disconnect between‪“Sunday Morning” and “Everyday Life.”

Matthew 6:10-11
10
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread

In the opening message of this series we are establishing 2 things:

  1. Show the disconnect between‪“Sunday Morning” and “Everyday Life.”
  2. For Matthew 6:10 to happen, “the Kingdom of God to come,” it is not “Suddenly” but in the “Everyday Life!”

Almost every Miracle happened “Everyday – On The Way” not as a specialized set moment in time.

Transformational Thinking Moment:

  • Anything (Fun, Church, Career, Hobbies, Dinner) done outside of the Presence of God is Sin!
  • If we are working forGod and not fromGod have missed it and Christianity is not different to you than any other “works based religion."

As we are in this series we are going to follow the life of Martha. Most of us would say “Oh Pastor, I just love to be like Mary, Martha’s sister, and sit at the feet of Jesus and worship.” But the truth is 99% of us fall into the Martha Category.

Luke 10:38-42 Martha and Mary

38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving (or obligation). And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.

Over the next 2 weeks we are going to address the spirits of:

  • Obligation
  • Manipulation
  • Victimization
  • Interpretation
  • Expectations

Today we are hitting on Obligations, Manipulations, Victimization.

When you surf, waves come in sets of 3. Just like 3 Waves, the 3 spirits of Obligations, Manipulations, Victimization, roll in one after the other.

Obligations

38 “… And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary,”

Here is the thing about the account that no one ever preaches. It was Martha’s House!

            She was responsible for:

                        The Bills,

                        The Internet

                        The Taxes,

                        The Food

                        The Cleaning

                        The Cooking

Jesus went to “Martha’s House” and her jobless, homeless sister was there.

Jesus was not discounting the importance of the obligations but wasn’t going to be manipulated by the attitude or spirit she was doing it in.

It wasn’t, that what Martha was doing wasn’t important, it wasn’t important in the moment.

You cannot continue to “get mad” at others if you have the opportunity to choose the “Good Portion” and do not do it.

Manipulations

40 But Martha was distracted with much serving (or obligation). And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

            Classic Passive Aggressive:

Martha chose the obligation over the opportunity!

When she chose the obligation and Jesus didn’t take her side, she resorted to manipulation.

  • Lord, do you not care
  • my sister has left me to serve alone
  • Tell her then to help me.

Scary moment: She does the same thing in the scripture account Lazarus Raised from the Dead and Mary does it also.

John 11:21 “Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not                                have died.”

John 11:32 “Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Your manipulations, of any kind if not dealt with, will infiltrate the household environment.

Victimization

“Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

Passive Aggressive: “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?”

Victimization: “Tell her then to help me.”

This is where Jesus is so good and Pastor Joel is not.

Jesus sees the Obligations, Manipulations, Victimizations and still deals gently with her.

Joel says “Get Over It.” You wanna see a crazy schedule and hectic life come hang with me for a week.

I am just as bad because now I am comparing my “Victim Card to Your Victim Card!”

Jesus’ answer to our Obligations, Manipulations and Victimizations is this “Come Sit At My Feet.”

Jesus… But I have to do…. The truth is “No, you don’t!”

Miracles will happen when you take the opportunities over obligations. Here is your opportunity.
