Encounter - Social Media
Scripture: Luke 9:28-36 & John 5:19-21
R.E.A.C.H - Raising Eternal And Community Hope
II Corinthians 10:13b “…but will boast (celebrate, glory in) only with regard to the area of influence God assigned to us, to reach even to you.”
Recognize our area of influence.
To Reach those who we were assigned.
GOAL: I believe God has called everyone of you to lead someone to Christ in 2017.
- We can ignite nations. Ignite - to set afire or to cause to blaze with flames.
- We can impact a 4 state area.
Impact - the force of impression from one thing on another; a significant or major affect.
- We can, We will, We must influence culture in a 20 mile radius of TWBC.
Influence - Change Culture
God wants to have “Encounters” with you.
Encounter - a face to face meeting; He wants to see you and for you to see Him.
28 Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white. 30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. 33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!” 36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.
I want to take a moment to clarify where were are headed and what we are doing. Since Super Sunday we have intentionally not brought up the New Facility.
Mark 2:27 “27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”
The same principle applies. The new facility is made for the people, the people are not made for the facility.
As we go into this Encounter Series, we are also going to be laying out the plans to get started on the new facility.
Why a new facility? This is what “Encounter” is all about. All through the scriptures God created a place to have an “Encounter” with his people.
The earth was place created for people that God could come and have a real Encounter with them.
The Tabernacle in the Wilderness was a place created for God to have a real Encounter with people.
The Temple was a place created for God to have a real Encounter with his people.
The New Covenant was created for God to have a real Encounter with Us!
The only purpose for the New Facility is this… a place for You to have a real Encounter with God.
Authentic Relationships: By creating an environment for divine connection, we develop quality relationships and experience life in Christ together. (First Core Value/DNA)
- The Facility isn't an Idol or a Holy Shrine it is a Tool.
- The Facility isn't a Christian Retirement Home or Country Club. It is designed to be a training environment to equip and send out. We are Kingdom Expanders and not Kingdom Squatters.
- This is not about a personal space but making “a Place” for everyone.
Construction Documents - $165,000 before the end of the year.
Break Ground when we have a 1/3 of the cost in savings, Goal Sept. 2018
Paid off by the time we move in, our 2020 Vision.
Real or Representation
I Corinthians 6:12;19-20
12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Illustration: Social Media
This is a relatively new concept in the world comparatively speaking. It has only been around 20 years or so. It has also become the biggest phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. On many of these sights you “follow people and people follow you.” Some of them call it “Friends Requests.”
The startling fact is you can know all about someone and never “Encounter” them or ever be in their “Presence.” A lot of us have used this concept in our relationship with God.
We want Social Media, God wants face to face.
Take Away - Come out
Official definition: Priest: Heb. — kohen — One who officiates.
Priest simply means “entitled to draw near to God in worship.”
For the past several messages we referred to the Tabernacle in the Wilderness. As amazing as the Tabernacle was, the great hindrance was that a select few could utilize it. Only the Priest could enter in and only the High Priest could go to the most Holy Place.
People were unable to serve in the Tabernacle (Dwelling of God), they needed a mediating Priest. Someone sent to represent them before God. This is why God called Aaron and his Sons to be the first of the priesthood.
The struggle with this format is much like our Social Media. We are staying connected by a by only a representation of the real.
Even worse many of us get our validation by the representation. “Click Like”
God’s plan and purpose still has not changed to this day. He wants to give you the “Real not the Representation.”
Exodus 19:6 “…and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
Revelation 5:10 “…and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
He has “entitled us to draw near to God in worship.”
He wants us to officiate on behalf of others.
Come into his Presence for those who can’t. Intercede for the lost.
Exodus 28:1 “Take…Aaron… that he may minister unto me in the Priests office.”
I Peter 2:9 “9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Many times we think of Worship as God ministering to us. As a priest our first job is for us to minister to God.
How? “… that you may proclaim the excellencies of him”

Under the law man had to be born into the priesthood.
Under the new covenant you are born-again in to the priesthood.
Ephesians 2:13 “13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
“But Now” you can tell if you are with “the Real” by how quickly you hear Him speak.
Is It You?
Aaron’s sons were secure in their office of “Priest,” not because of their own merit, but because their father’s appointment as High Priest.
Is it the “Real You” or the “Represented You’’
Many of us love Social Media because we can put on the persona of who we want to be.
As a believer we can be sure, secure, confident, and operate in power, not because of our own merit but because Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest. He Promises that we will never be separated from our priesthood.
Romans 8:35-39 “35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Behind the Screen
What sets us apart from the Old Testament Priest?
I Peter 2:9 “9 But you are…. a royal priesthood,”
Since the Priests were set apart by the blood of animals they had to minister from behind a screen or veil. There was a separation from “the Real”
We were set apart by Royal Blood, Empowered Blood (blood infused with power) we are set apart and empowered to be priests not in a tabernacle but in the Royal Throne Room of God.
Take Away - Come out from behind the screen.
