DNA - Eyes Open #3

Scripture: Mark 5:41b “…I say to you, arise.”

R.E.A.C.H - Raising Eternal And Community Hope

II Corinthians 10:13b “…but will boast (celebrate, glory in) only with regard to the area of influence God assigned to us, to reach even to you.”

Recognize our area of influence.

To Reach those who we were assigned.

GOAL: I believe God has called everyone of us to lead someone to Christ in 2017.

    • We can ignite nations. Ignite - to set afire or to cause to blaze with flames.
    • We can impact a 4 state area.

Impact - the force of impression from one thing on another; a significant or major affect.

    • We can, We will, We must influence culture in a 20 mile radius of TWBC.

Influence - Change Culture

When you know, you will grow. You will “arise”. The heart of this series, DNA, is to know who we are at TWBC so we can Grow or Arise to the fullness of who we are called to be.

DNA - Deoxyribonucleic acid is a molecule that carries the genetic instructions used in the growth, development, functioning and reproduction of all known living organisms.

For this series, DNA, we are going to explain the DNA of TWBC using Mark 5 as a launch point knowing that there are several scriptures we could use in addition to illustrate our DNA, our Core.

Eyes Open:  We look for every available means, at every available time, to reach every available person through service and giving.

Mark 5:1-20

They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes. And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” 10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. 11 Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, 12 and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” 13 So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea.

14 The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. 16 And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs. 17 And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region. 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. 19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

The Opportunity

It is not just what you do in the house but who will you notice on the way to the house.

“Faith in Motion” is Faith that is observant action.

Observant action is learning to live with “Eyes Open.”

When you learn to embrace the interruption you’ll begin to look for the opportunity.

Eyes Open:

We look

for every available means

at every available time

to reach every available person

through service and giving.

As we read the account of the tormented demonic we can see that there were some things leading up to this encounter.

Mark 4

The Parable of the Seed Growing

26 And he said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

30 And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. 34 He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

Calms the Storm

35 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him

After they get to the other side they get out of the boat and they meet the tormented demonic.

Jesus always walked with “Eyes Open”! Not just to set free the tormented one, the one with the issue and the impossible situation, but also for the ones who are aspiring to be like him, his disciples.

Remember: A student wants to know what his teacher knows. A disciple wants to be who his rabbi is.

A Christian should not just want to know what Jesus knows. We should be trying to be who Jesus is.

The opportunity is so awesome. Because after you have your moment he is not forgetting about you. He says it is time to grow.

You are the seed who He is not going to let stay where you’re at. “27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how.”

He’s even growing you in your sleep.

Gimme a Break

Don’t believe the lie! God will not put more on you than you can handle.

Parable 1

Parable 2

The Storm

The Demonic

The Woman with the Issue

Jairus daughter was raised from the dead.

Don’t believe the lie! God will not put more on you than you can handle.

I Corinthians 10:13 “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

God will deliver you from temptation, not from discipleship.

The truth is “If you can handle it you don't need God.”

God is trying to get you past you and into Him. Where you are limited he is limitless. Thats why we need to get into him.

My question is “Why do you want God to leave you alone?”

I want him “all up in my business”!

God is not training you for comfort. He is training you for the impossible.

This does not mean he doesn't care. In fact, it means just the opposite. He cares so much he refuses to let you be normal.
