Define It - H-PD #4 (Holiness Police Dept.)

Opening Scripture: I Peter 1:14-16 & II Corinthians 7:1

Planted - “Fruit where you are, Roots where you’re Growing.”

3 Keys to “Roots” (Time, Talking, Tithe)

  1. Attending - 3 Sunday’s per month. National statistics show active church attendance is 1.8 Sundays a month.
  2. Inviting - Inviting means Invested. If you won’t invite someone it is because of one of 2 reasons: A Fruit Issue or A Root Issue.  You’re Not Producing or You’re Not Planted.
  3. Invest - Time (Attending), Talent (Fruit or Inviting), Tithe (Financially)

Define It - You won’t Grow if you don’t know.

The Bible meaning and Bible application of Church words. We call it Christianese.

I ran into a wall trying to start this series. We want to define everything so we can move forward in concert but the first thing we need to define is not “a word” but You and Me.

What is real, we do not always feel. What we feel is not always real.

What is real, we do not always feel. What we feel is not always real.

This is why Define it is so important. If you let your feelings create the definition you will never have what is “Real” about the Kingdom of God.

If we let what is real, the Word of God, define us we may not always feel it but the Fruit is the proof we are looking for and not the feeling.

John 15:16 “that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain…”

We need to have Fruit that remains, but many of us want a feeling that remains.

I Peter 1:14-1614 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

II Corinthians 7:1Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.”

Holy - Literal Bible -  sacred, physically, pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially, consecrated

Holiness - The act of being Holy and the process of being Holy.

Many times in our walk to become Holy we find ourselves being the HPD (Holiness Police Dept.) rather than humbling ourselves to walk with a Holy God.

Police officers have codes. These codes identify certain situations that are taking place.

Police Codes -

10-96 Mental Subject

10-43 Request Criminal History

10-55 Intoxicated Motorist

10-91 Prisoner Transfer

10-30 Caution

Policing Others vs. Police Yourself

We want to tell everyone else what they are doing wrong but do not want to address the influences we are under.

We feel we have “a right” to our wrong emotions while we hold others accountable for theirs.

“I am better than I used to be.”

Holiness - Jesus did not come to make you better than you were, He came to make you like Him.

Holy How? Starts with Grace but carried out by Pace.

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith…”

Righteousness has set you free.

Holiness is laying aside what you have been set free from.

Starts with Grace

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.

10-96 Mental Subject

10-43 Request Criminal History

10-55 Intoxicated Motorist

10-91 Prisoner Transfer

10-30 Caution

Carried By Pace

And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith…”

Run with endurance means that there is a Pace.

Illustration: Stumble and fall walk of Holiness

Some of us have given up on “Holiness” because we think it is an impossibility.  We’ve fallen one too many times.

But... Proverbs 24:16 “for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again,” (NIV)

It doesn’t say the righteous won’t fall, in fact, it says this one fell 7 times.

But if you are going to rise you need to learn how to fall.

Fall forward, into his grace, that will put you back on course to continue the pace.
