Define It - Chicken or Egg? #3

Planted - “Fruit where you are, Roots where you’re Growing.”

3 Keys to “Roots” (Time, Talking, Tithe)

  1. Attending - 3 Sunday’s per month. National statistics show active church attendance is 1.8 Sundays a month.
  2. Inviting - Inviting means Invested. If you won’t invite someone it is because of one of 2 reasons: A Fruit Issue or A Root Issue.  You’re Not Producing or You’re Not Planted.
  3. Invest - Time (Attending), Talent (Fruit or Inviting), Tithe (Financially)

Define It - You won’t Grow if you don’t know.

The Bible meaning and Bible application of Church words. We call it Christianese.

I ran into a wall trying to start this series. We want to define everything so we can move forward in concert but the first thing we need to define is not “a word” but You and Me.

What is real, we do not always feel. What we feel is not always real.

What is real, we do not always feel. What we feel is not always real.

This is why Define it is so important. If you let your feelings create the definition you will never have what is “Real” about the Kingdom of God.

If we let what is real, the Word of God, define us we may not always feel it but the Fruit is the proof we are looking for and not the feeling.

John 15:16 “that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain…”

We need to have Fruit that remains, but many of us want a feeling that remains.

The best way to introduce the message is with the question “Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg?” As we Define Born Again and Salvation, these are 2 terms that are so closely related but distinctly different.

A Chicken and the Egg are closely related but distinctly different.

John 20:30-31 “30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

It is not Google.

Many people use the Bible like a search engine on the internet. We look to the Bible to find answers but the Bible was written, not to find answers, but so you will find God, The Father.

John 31 - But these are written:

1. that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,

2. and that by believing you may have life in his name.”

Born Again

John 3:3-7

3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again (from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

Born again, ‘saved’, born from above: spiritually transformed, renewed.

-An event

-Your spiritual recreation/redemption/righteousness

-When you receive your citizenship in the Kingdom

II Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

I Corinthians 7:23 “You were bought with a price; do not become bondservants of men.”

Born - Again starts when you realize you were “bought with a price.” It is the beginning! The starting line!

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

What is Grace? - One Way Love! All from Him all for us.

How does Grace work in my life? It works in the form of Empowered Obedience.

Romans 10:9-10 (Message)

It’s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us. This is the core of our preaching. Say the welcoming word to God—“Jesus is my Master”—embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!”

Philippians 2:12-13

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Notice it plainly says “work out” and not “work for.”

If Born Again is “Bought with a Price” then Salvation is “The Assembly” of what was in the box.

There is some “work” that needs to be done on and in Pastor Joel. But the “working out” in me is different than the working out in you.

We are 2 Different Bikes.

Salvation - (Literal Bible) A Lifestyle

deliverance, preservation, safety, salvation: deliverance from the molestation of enemies, victory

Luke 1:71; preservation (of physical life), safety, Acts 27:34; Hebrews 11:7

In an ethical sense, that which conduces to the soul's safety or salvation:

-A lifestyle…the benefits are not automatic

-Your rights as a citizen of the Kingdom

-Sanctification allows you to experience the benefits of salvation

When we have a Lifestyle of Deliverance, Perseveration, Victory what happens?

II Corinthians 3:17-18 “17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”

Born Again is an EVENT - Salvation is a LIFESTYLE!
