Baptism - Make a Splash

Matthew 28:19

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

What does the word Baptize mean: to make fully wet; to wash, to identify with

Baptizing them into the name of:

This means you don’t go forth as Joel Tiemeyer any longer, but you go forth with the banner of Jesus Christ. Not just with His name but with his power, anointing, love and strength. You now go forth with everything Jesus did when He came up out of the water.

the Father - is a baptism into righteousness

Philippians 3:9 “not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ - the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.”

Righteousness is not just being able to walk before God sinless it is the character of God.

II Corinthians 5:21 “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

When you come up out of the water you are coming up in newness of life and newness of character taking on the righteous Character of God.

the Son - is a baptism into repentance

Romans 6:1-4

1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

You were baptized into his death; His death is for the forgiveness and remission of sin.

Then it says just as Jesus was raised from the dead, we were raised from the dead. The dead sin filled life you used to lead you have died to and you were raised into a new life.

Acts 2:38 “38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

We have separated the scriptures when we were baptized into the Father and the Son you were also baptized into the Holy Spirit.

the Holy Spirit - is a baptism into the power

Acts 2:38

Matthew 3:11-16

11 “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

            Fire: Greek “lightning” or power.

God is not going to get you saved, have you repent and leave your life of sin and not give you the power to stay out of that old lifestyle.

Colossians 2:11-12

11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Here is the main reason born again people do not live like a new creation.

I Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he isa new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Baptism is literally the cutting off of the old you and the rising up in the new person you have become.
