Matthew 28:19  (The Passion Translation)

Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

One of the single greatest shortcomings of the Church today is that her focus has become more about gathering than going.  Being a faithful, contributing member of a church is a vital part of the life of a believer.  But, many times, churches become self focused and introverted rather than the outreaching arm of Christ.  Those who enjoy the benefits of fellowship within their church seem to quickly forget what it was like when they were the ones on the outside looking in.  Believers fall into the mindset that it’s the job of the church pastors and staff to develop a program or ad campaign to invite people to participate in a worship service.  This method may bring in a few but by and large, the intimidation factor of walking into a crowded building full of people they don’t know and aren’t sure what they believe will keep a non-member from walking in the door of a church.  In today’s text, Jesus makes it clear that those who follow Him are to go, not simply invite.  Think about what that would look like for you.  Where is He asking you to go?  Who is He asking you to reach out to?  Who can you begin showing the love of the Father?  You may or may not invite them ‘to church’ right away but then again, you are the church.  Who can you be the Church to today? - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff.

Matthew 28:19-20  (The Passion Translation)

19 “Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 20 And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.”

Discipleship.  For most Christians, it has become a lost art.  Most people who claim to be believers don’t what it means to disciple someone.  This is not their fault alone because in most cases they were never discipled themselves.  Today’s text makes it very clear, that those who claim to follow Christ are to make disciples, not simply converts. Some may have gone through a program or class offered through their church but discipleship is meant to be relational not downloaded.  If you’ll look at the ministry of Jesus, He had disciples who were with Him almost constantly but He also had those who came to hear Him speak and then went back to their everyday lives.  Discipleship requires a great deal of commitment and submission from both parties involved.  It involves walking through life together and allowing an apprenticeship of sorts to occur.  The one who disciples must be at a place in their walk in which they are able teach the one being discipled what a life that seeks after Christ really looks like.  You maybe in a place in your life where you feel like you need to be discipled or you may be ready to begin pouring into someone else’s life.  Either way, to experience Christian life to the fullest requires relationships that are committed and deep.  Ask God who He has put in your life that you can help grow and who He’s put in your life to help grow you. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

John 4:35 (The Passion Translation)

As the crowds emerged from the village, Jesus said to his disciples, “Why would you say, ‘The harvest is another four months away’? Look at all the people coming—now is harvest time! For their hearts are like vast fields of ripened grain—ready for a spiritual harvest.

If you’ve ever watched a movie involving a shipwreck or airplane crash, or if (heaven forbid) you’ve been in one yourself, you probably know what the term ‘Mayday’ means.  A mayday is a distress call letting anyone who may be listening on the other end of the transmission know that the caller is in need of emergency assistance.  Whether you realize it or not there is a mayday call that God is sending out to the church today.  Here’s the emergency…The church, by and large, has developed a “come to me” mode of reaching the lost when Jesus initiated a “go to them” system.  Look at it from this perspective.  Suppose a farmer came to you complaining about having trouble getting his crops in.  After asking him a few questions, you come to find out that he just sat in his recliner and never went into the fields.  What would your advice to him be?  You would undoubtedly tell him, probably not the kindest of words, that he needed to get up and get to work bringing them in.  This is the attitude of the the Church today.  People sit in their comfortable pews and pray for God to bring the harvest to them.  As you’ve surely noticed, this mode of operation hasn’t been working all that well.  God is sending out a ‘mayday’ on behalf of the lost and dying saying, “We’re here!  Please come help us!”  Are you listening?  Will you respond to this mayday?  Will you go out into the harvest field of your family, job, neighborhood, kids ball teams, and schools?  There is a spiritual harvest waiting on you. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Luke 5:3  (The Passion Translation)

“Jesus climbed into the boat belonging to Simon Peter and asked him, “Let me use your boat. Push it off a short distance away from the shore so I can speak to the crowds.”

It seems that in the church world today that a rift has developed between those who enjoy what has become known as contemporary worship and those who prefer the what is referred to as the traditional style.  Whatever side of that debate you find yourself on, there is one thing that is undeniable…the church’s current model of worship has been relatively the same for the past 500 years.  Whether you enjoy the contemporary or traditional atmosphere, the over all method and model is the same.  The point that you must get is that while everything else from vehicles to phones must change and remain relevant in order to stay in business, the church seems to think that she can just continue using the same modes and methods that have been in place for the last 500 years.  When Jesus stepped into the boat and used it as a preaching platform He did something that had never been done before.  Rabbis had always taught in the synagogues.  This was a definite shift from the ordinary.  He did it to reach people who wouldn’t have ever stepped into a synagog.  While the message of salvation will never change, the church must continue to find new ways to bring this hope to the world.  What has the Lord given you personally that you can use to reach out to those who will never step inside of a church building?  Your car?  Your phone?  Your Home?  Maybe a hobby or pass time?  Ask the Holy Spirit to use what you have available to bring the message of hope to the lost. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Job 14:7

“For there is hope for a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease.

It’s no secret that the United States is now a post Christian society.  This may be a tough pill to swallow but the fact is that God and the Bible are now afterthoughts when it comes to the moral compass of society.  In every area from education to politics Christianity has ceased to be the standard to which things are held.  The church used to be the center of every community and the church house was where all civil matters were met about and discussed.  While this may not be the case any longer, the truth remains that there is still a strong root system in place that, should God’s people rise up and take their place, the Lord will use to re-establish His Body in this nation once again.  You are a part of that root system.  You have the answer within you that this nation needs.  It will require your faith and boldness ways that you never thought you would use them.  But as you live your life in a way that glorifies God and you refuse to be one of those who falls into the trap of bitterness and offense when someone speaks out against your beliefs, He will use you to bring about change.  Be strong in your sonship, love people like Jesus would, and preach with your life before you preach with words. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Job 14:8-9

8 Though its root grow old in the earth, and its stump die in the soil, 9 yet at the scent of water it will bud and put out branches like a young plant.

The greatest issue facing the church is not an outside threat, but an inside neglect.  The church has become very good about blaming it’s current lack of effectiveness on outside circumstances rather than asking itself why are these circumstances having such success in slowing its progress.  Those who profess to be believers must begin to undergo some serious self evaluation in which they ask themselves the hard questions.  Why has the church taken on defensive game plan as opposed to being evangelistic and taking an offensive mindset that will keep the hope that it carries in front of those who need it?  What happened to the life that it once had?  When the church begins to seek out those who are in need of the Hope that it carries, the Holy Spirit will bring His rain and the church will begin to blossom and bear fruit once again.  Are you in need of a spiritual overhaul?  Has your light been dimmed by the difficulties and circumstances of life?  Ask the Lord to give you the opportunity to help bring hope to a desperate situation.  He will show you that you’re far more effective than what you currently realize.  He wants refresh you by with an outpouring of His Spirit into your life. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
