Mayday - Extraction Plan

Daily Devotionals

Monday, May 20

Luke 10: 1
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.

If you’ve served in a branch of the armed forces or know anything about them, you know that within each branch are men and women who serve as part of an extraction team. Extraction teams consist of soldiers who specialize in rescuing those who have been stranded or captured in a dangerous situation, usually behind enemy lines. These brave teams are equipped and authorized to locate and remove their comrades from the life threatening ordeal that they’ve ended up in. In today’s text and others like it, Jesus, was appointing and authorizing extraction teams. He was sending them out into the surrounding cities and communities to rescue those who were being held captive by the enemy and issues that resulted from not being in relationship with Him. If you are a believer, you are part of God’s extraction team. He has given you a specific skillset that consists of your own unique giftings and calling that He wants to use to lead people out of the crazy situations that they’re in and into the kingdom of God. Have you accepted your appointment? Are you ready and willing to locate and rescue those who are being held captive behind enemy lines? Jesus is waiting for you to step up and step out into lives of those around you who are in desperate need of rescue. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Luke 4:18-19
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

The anointing. It’s what sets those who are children of God apart from those who aren’t. It’s the only thing that the enemy can’t duplicate which makes it the only thing that will prove His power to those who don’t know Him. Even back in Moses’ day when the Lord did signs in front of Pharaoh, the magicians and sorcerers replicated those signs. It’s no different today, the enemy will use everything from technology, to medicine, to fortune telling to imitate the supernatural work of God. While all these worldly things may seem to help or bring some sort of relief, only the anointing can truly liberate and transform. The anointing will remove and destroy things that hold people captive. The enemies imitations and deception will only serve to increase the bondage and further victimize those in His grasp. An encounter with the anointing will bring freedom and reveal the Father’s heart toward the recipient. In most cases, it will take more than one experience with the anointing to become completely free but that person will always walk away enjoying greater freedom than what they had before. You, as a child of God, are a carrier of His anointing. He has given you the one thing that will set those who are captive free. You have a God-given anointing and appointing to go and rescue those in bondage. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Luke 10:2
And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.

There is an expression that says, ‘You become passionate about what you pray about.’ This is something that Jesus obviously knew. When He instructed His followers to pray for laborers in today’s text, He knew that it would spark passion for the lost within them. The fact of the matter was that Jesus was actually having them pray for themselves. He had just told them that He was sending them out and now He was instructing them to pray that they would go and bring the Good News of the Kingdom into the surrounding area. What’s the condition of your heart when it comes to reaching the lost? Do you have the Father’s heart for them or do you prefer not to think about them? If you will ask the Lord to give you His eyes to see them the way He does you’ll soon develop a passion to be more reaching with your Christian walk. Many people fear asking God this type of question because they feel like He might send them to some distant place to reach a native tribe of some sort. While there is a possibility that He may send you out some day, in all likelihood, He will just begin opening your eyes to the needs of the person you work alongside, or give you compassion for that family member who always seems to be down and out. He knows where you’re at as well as who He made you to be from the very beginning. By spending some time seeking Him concerning the lost, you will begin seeing yourself and your giftings through the unique way He enables you to reach out to those around you. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Acts 4:29-31
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

Many believers find themselves asking the Lord to give them more faith because they feel convicted about not doing more in the Kingdom of God. While the believer’s faith is the basis for who they are and what they do, it’s usually not an issue of faith when it comes to a lack of ‘productivity’. Jesus said in Luke 17 that the amount of faith wasn’t the disciples issue when they asked for more of it and Paul said in Romans 12 that everyone has been given the measure of faith. So if faith is not the issue, then what is? For most, the problem is a lack of boldness or courage, not faith. There is a misconception that if you have faith then you’re automatically going to be bold enough to use it. This was not the case in today’s text. The Apostles’ lives had been threatened because they were sharing their faith. Upon hearing this, their faith didn’t change but it was obvious that their courage had been shaken. If you find yourself in the place of not stepping out and operating in what you believe, just like the Apostles, you need to pray for boldness. The next time you feel the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart to step out and show His love to someone at work or when He asks you to pray for the checker at the store who has obviously having a bad day, ask Him for His boldness to act on the faith that’s on the inside of you. You have the faith, you just need the courage to put it to work. - Love and Blessings - Pastor Jeff

Luke 10:5-7
5 Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house!’ 6 And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him. But if not, it will return to you. 7 And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.

As you seek to reach out to those around you with the love of Jesus, you will undoubtedly get a variety of different responses. Some will receive the message you bring with joy and an open heart, while others may be, let’s just say, a little less receptive. No matter how the other party responds, you must remain obedient to what the Holy Spirit is instructing you to do. It’s easy to be loving to those who respond positively, but when someone slams the door in your face or begins going off on a tangent about how much they hate God and Christianity, your response must still be in a loving manner. Notice that Jesus instructed the disciples to remain in the persons home regardless of whether they were received peacefully or not. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you pester and aggravate them until they make some sort of decision. What it does mean is that you remain Christlike toward them by being loving and available. The peace of God that you carry will leave an impact on their life that will eventually open the door for the Lord to move in their life. You are a vessel carrying the peace of God, something that the world in is desperate need of today. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Luke 10:9
Heal the sick in it and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’

With all of the different ideas and opinions floating around within the church today, it’s easy to get caught up in arguments and debates about issues that ultimately don’t matter. The church today has become a body of differing methods, programs and denominations that spends far more time focussing on and trying to correct it’s internal issues rather than reaching outward as commanded by Jesus. The Body of Christ must realize that the real issue is not as much about what they think the Kingdom should look like on the inside as much as it about getting those outside of the Kingdom brought into it. There will always be opportunity to have a disagreement about logistics, politics, and worship styles but the lost will not always have the opportunity to be saved. Notice how Jesus phrased today’s text. He said, “The Kingdom of God has come near to you.” In other words, those in His Kingdom are to be about bringing that Kingdom to those on the outside, not spending their time on the inside making sure their agenda, whatever it may be, is promoted. Too many Christians view their local church body as a personal platform rather than a place of refuge for those who are lost and dying. When you serve at your church, does it come from a place helping others get refreshed or is it from a place of wanting to be seen and applauded. Who have you brought the Kingdom to lately? - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
