Acts 8:1
…and there arose on that day a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

When reading scriptures like this one, many people choose to look at from the victim perspective. While it’s easy to sit back and pin the blame solely on the devil and the ones doing his bidding, the fact of the matter is that the church of that day, much like the church of today, had become content with being where they were and doing what they were doing. If you’ll recall, Jesus had commanded them to take the Gospel out from Jerusalem to the rest of the world. But that just wasn’t happening. They had become very good at doing church they way they had grown accustomed to rather the being the Church that Jesus had established. They had allowed the culture that they been raised in to actually become handcuffs that restricted them. That’s when the persecution started. Not because God ordained it, but because they has stepped out from under the protection that comes with obedience. Sound familiar? Christians in America today are good at complaining about what the government and other organizations are allowing and the country’s failing morals but most refuse to leave the four walls of their church to actually go out and be the Church. This is why it has become the norm see Christianity being more and more criticized while various religions and other ideals are being embraced. Have you been crippled by comfort? Are you stepping up to the call God has upon your life, not only inside of the church but in your personal life as well? Don’t let comfort and complacency be your gods. Rise up and become who He has created you to be. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Acts 9:31
So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.

The problem with being stuck in a box is that most people don’t realize they’re stuck. They’ve come to place of comfort and developed a false sense of security in their confinement. In the early days of Christianity the disciples were experiencing radical growth in the Church accompanied by miracles, signs and wonders. The problem however, was that they had allowed what God had used to bless them to actually incarcerate them. Jerusalem was where they had experienced the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the 3000 salvations on the day of Pentecost, all the healings, all of their fellowship, and all of their gathering had taken place there. It wasn’t until persecution came and scattered them that the Gospel was actually carried outside of the 'Jerusalem box’. Are you feeling like some people or things have been coming against you lately? Do the people that used to support you seem to be turning on you? Maybe it’s because it’s time to get out of your box. Many times, the issue is not with the people or circumstances around you but with the growing discontentment inside of you. While leaving the comfort and familiarity of what you’ve always known is difficult, the satisfaction and empowering that comes from stepping out by faith into the next thing God has for you will be more rewarding and fulfilling than you could ever imagine. The very thing that’s causing you discomfort may actually be the key that God is using to unlock the prison door that’s keeping you from moving into all that He has for you. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

When the trials of life, whether they be physical, emotional, or spiritual in nature, occur in your life…and they will, it’s important to remember that while God can and will use them, He doesn’t ordain them. Many people allow the presence or absence of difficulties to be the indicator of whether or not they’re on the right path in life. They have the misunderstanding that if they were doing the right thing bad that things wouldn’t be happening. The truth of the matter is that whether you’re doing the right thing or not, life is going to bring difficulties and trials. Often, the fact that you’re doing exactly what God has instructed is causing you to face resistance. On the other hand, if you’re out of God’s will you could be experiencing troubles because you’ve stepped out from under His grace. Either way, if you allow circumstances to be the measuring stick by which you gauge your spiritual walk you going to suffer from a great deal instability in your life. The truth of the matter is this, if you’re allowing anything or anyone to guide your life other than the Holy Spirit Himself you will never experience the grace that it takes to see you through. His grace can pull you out of a pit or empower you to continue moving forward in the face of adversity. Your job is to know, and be in constant communication with, the One who makes all things work together for your good. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Philippians 1:6
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Have you ever seen a ship being launched for the very first time? All the years of construction and preparation finally pay off as this massive vessel slides off of it’s confines and into the sea with a great deal splashing, rocking and swaying. All while being celebrated by the crowds of people who had gathered for this momentous occasion. At risk of stating the obvious, this was the beginning of the ship’s journey, not it’s final destination. It wouldn’t take very long for those same people who celebrated the ship’s launch to become it’s biggest critics if a few months, or even weeks, later it was still tied up in the shipyard. Many a Christian will unfortunately find themselves in this very same scenario. They stay tied up in the shipyard of their churches where they are celebrated and pampered. All the while, their destiny waits to be fulfilled. Sure, the ship is safe in the shipyard from the storms and perils of the sea, but it was built with those very things in mind and was constructed to withstand that and whatever else it might encounter on its many journeys. Just over the horizon is a world of opportunity full of achievement and adventure that is at risk of never taking place. Are you tied up in the shipyard or have you started out the God-ordained journey He has mapped out specifically for you? Things He has in store for you are greater than you could ever imagine but you’ll never experience them if you limited you Christian life to the inside of a church building. It’s time to set sail! - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Psalm 30:5
For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

If you know anything about photography, not cell phone pics or digital images, but the actual taking and developing of a photograph, you know that the process takes place in what is known as a dark room. The photographer takes the exposed film, that is called a negative, into a room with no light and transfers the image using the proper chemicals onto photo paper. When the photograph is complete it is referred to as ‘developed’. God does the same thing with your life. Everything negative that you’re exposed to and deal with in the dark times He can take and use to develop you into the image that He’s envisioned from the very beginning. You see only the original photographer knows the image that was captured on the negative because they took the picture in the first place. The Lord knows that your life is going to encounter difficulties and struggles. If you’ll trust Him with those negatives He will develop you into an award winning image. The amazing and beautiful part of it all is that that image will look a lot like God Himself. - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff

Deuteronomy 32:11
Like an eagle that stirs up its nest,  that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them,
bearing them on its pinions.

An eagle’s nest is quite an elaborate affair. A pair of eagles may take up to 6 weeks to build a nest, usually in the top of a tree, lining it with soft grasses, moss and other grassy materials. Finally, to complete the nest, they tenderly line the bottom with their own feathers. For the first twelve weeks of life, the eaglet relaxes, trusting her parents to provide everything she needs. When it’s time for the eaglet to learn to fly, the mother and father use their sharp talons to pull apart the soft materials that lined the nest. Then the mother eagle rises up and hovers over the nest, flapping her huge wings, stirring the nest.  As she does this, all of the comfortable stuff that kept the nest cozy flies out. This sends a clear message to the eaglet—it’s time to leave your life of comfort! Sometimes when things don’t go the way you think they should in life, rather than immediately jumping to the conclusion that the devil is messing with you, you should ask the Lord if He’s stirring your nest in an effort to teach you to fly. It’s easy to sit back and enjoy the comfort of the nest and when something gets stirred up start blaming and rebuking the devil when God is the One at work. He knows that there are greater things in store for you than what you can experience in the nest and He is far more concerned with your character than your comfort. Just like a mother eagle, He will never let you fall when He is teaching you to fly. Are you willing to trust Him enough to jump out the nest? - Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
